¡ARRIBA!: Special Fundraiser Edition: Coming Together for Puerto Rico & Mexico

Wednesday, October 18, 2017
6 – 9pm
Location
On the High Line at 16th St.

Come out and help us support the relief efforts for Puerto Rico and Mexico after the devastating natural disasters that took place in September. Join us and several of our community partners as we come together for a special edition of our longest-running Latin live music and dancing event, ¡Arriba!

Traditionally a salsa, mambo and boogaloo-inspired dancing party, this special edition of ¡Arriba! will feature Bomba and Plena contemporary classics Los Pleneros de la 21, Mexican acoustic “bluegrass” with Rana Santacruz, and the amazing beats of DJ Rimarkable. Food and drink will be available for purchase on-site from our food vendors.

RSVP & Donate

This event is part of our October campaign to support relief efforts, concluding on Friday, October 20
with A Party Called Rosie Perez at Juni Figueroa’s
La Deliciosa Show.

Please come, support, share, repost, and help us get the word out!

About the Artists

Los Pleneros de la 21

Founded in 1983, Los Pleneros de la 21 is an intergenerational ensemble of today’s venerated Latino musicians and top Bomba and Plena practitioners’ combining the folkloric and raw percussion elements of Puerto Rican Bomba & Plena genres with contemporary and urban styles.

Rana Santacruz

A talented multi-instrumentalist, Rana’s accordion-driven songs reveal a knack for poetic storytelling, as grounded in the music of Tom Waits and the literary tropes of Magical Realism as in Mexico’s venerable corrido (story-ballad) tradition.

DJ Rimarkable

Detroit native is a DJ, vocalist, producer, and drummer. Truly mastering the DJ technique of “Reading the Crowd”, she has earned the moniker, “Rimarkable” after rocking on international dance floors for almost two decades, everywhere from the dance floors of Berlin to Johannesburg to NYC.

PARTNERS

We are proud to partner with many of our neighbors and friends who have been committed to work serving local Puerto Rican and Mexican communities for decades, work that has only increased these past few weeks. These partners include El Puente, Fulton Youth of the Future, Hudson Guild, Teatro Círculo, The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), The Loisaida Center. and the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York.

Support

Public programs on the High Line are supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Council, under the leadership of Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.
