ABOUT BATALANYC
BatalaNYC is New York City’s only all-women AfroBrazilian samba reggae percussion band. They are part of a bigger Global Arts project of the name Batala, which comprises bands in more than 25 cities around the world. BatalaNYC plays rhythms of northeast Brazil, the state of Bahia, which has roots in West African rhythms. They take all women regardless of musical ability and teach them to drum and dance! BatalaNYC has performed in more than 100 festivals, parades, events, shows, and parties, and had the honor of being the opening drummers for the Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary tour in 2012. It’s a Samba-lanche of sound and color!
