14th Street Passage, on the High Line at West 14th Street
Enjoy a hilarious evening with this veteran of New York's downtown performing arts scene. Carmelita Tropicana creates hilarious, political shows that invite the audience into her world, where history and fantasy raucously collide.
Carmelita Tropicana's subversive and fantastical humor are presented as part of our Out of Line series, our summer-long tribute to the infamous Renegade Cabaret shows.
UPCOMING OUT OF LINE DATES
Thursday, September 22: Heartbeat Opera
ABOUT CARMELITA TROPICANA
Carmelita Tropicana (a.k.a. Alina Troyano) is an Obie Award-winning performance artist, playwright, and actor. Troyano burst onto New York's downtown performing arts scene in the '80s with her alter ego, the spitfire Carmelita Tropicana, and her counterpart, the irresistible archetypal Latin macho, Pingalito Betancourt, followed by performances as Hernando Cortez's horse and la Cucaracha Martina from her childhood fairy tales in Cuba.
Public Programs on the High Line are supported by Altman Foundation. These programs are supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Council, under the leadership of Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.
