Going Green: FHL Switches to FSC-Certified Paper Stocks and Printers

In the first of many steps toward improving the environmentally- and socially-responsible practices of our organization, FHL is proud to announce that in January 2008, we began utilizing paper stocks and printers certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for our printed materials.

FSC is an international non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world's forests by setting high standards to ensure that forestry is practiced in an environmentally-responsible, socially-beneficial, and economically-viable way. Landowners and companies that sell timber or forest products seek FSC certification as a way to verify to consumers that they practice forestry consistent with FSC standards.

FSC has developed a set of Principles and Criteria for forest management that are applicable to all FSC-certified forests throughout the world. There are 10 Principles and 57 Criteria that address legal issues, indigenous rights, labor rights, and environmental impacts surrounding forest management.
