A Delicious First Season of High Line Food

Our first full season of High Line Food will soon come to a close. We pulled together some photos of our favorite moments from the year. Take a look, and tell us what you think. We hope you will share your thoughts with us to help make High Line Food even better next year.

FOOD ON THE HIGH LINE
One of the most frequent requests we get from visitors is for snack and dining options on the High Line, and we listened!

We are committed to working with entrepreneurial food partners whose products are good for the people eating the food, good for those who grow it, and good for the land. High Line Food took shape early this year with an open house with more than 100 people our neighborhood. Their feedback helped inform our evaluation of the food vendors who responded to our request for proposals.

In April, we selected six vendors to partner with us to offer food and beverage on the High Line: Blue Bottle Coffee, offering a full espresso bar, single origin drip coffees prepared to order, hot chocolate, and house-made baked goods; Melt Bakery, serving delicious ice cream sandwiches in the summer, and warm pies made with season fruit, warm cookies, and hot tea in the fall; La Newyorkina, boasting paletas during the summer, and homemade candies, small pastries, and Mexican hot chocolate in the fall; People’s Pops, serving ice pops made from fresh fruit from the greenmarket; and L'Arte Del Gelato a Chelsea Market staple for gelato and sorbetto.

The sixth vendor, The Green Table, partnered with us to operate The Porch, a 40-seat, open-air seasonal café that offered fresh, delicious fare on the lower level of the Chelsea Market Passage at West 15th Street. The Porch’s menu focused on food sourced from local family farms that exercise humane and environmentally friendly practices.

THE LOT ON TAP
The Lot was a temporary space generously donated to Friends of the High Line for the summer by the Related Companies and Abington Properties, the owners of the property. The Lot was home to The Lot on Tap, a wine and beer bar, run by Colicchio & Sons, and a rotating series of food trucks. Featured at The Lot on Tap was the Brooklyn High Line Elevated Wheat, a beer brewed especially for the High Line by Brooklyn Brewery using ingredients mainly sourced from New York State.

HIGH LINE FOOD PROGRAMS
Just like the High Line, food brings people together, and that thinking is the reason why we held programs this season that used food as a means to learn, be entertained, and connect with neighbors.

The Green Table served fresh popcorn during the Trains on Film Series; Melt Bakery, La Newyorkina, and other food vendors taught kids and families how to make special recipes, and we held our first communal meal on the High Line.
