An Important Step for the High Line at the Rail Yards
We are one step closer to securing the third and final section of the High Line at the rail yards to be transformed into public open space.
On Wednesday, April 25, the New York City Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve a zoning text amendment that secures the eastern portion of the High Line at the rail yards, including the 10th Avenue Spur, as public open space.

Called the High Line Text Amendment, the zoning will set a framework for funding from the Related Companies for the portion of the High Line on the Eastern Rail Yards – approximately 30% of the estimated total cost of building the High Line’s final section – and will pave the way for construction to begin in 2012.
The Planning Commission’s vote on the zoning text amendment is the latest step in a public review process, called the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure, or ULURP. The process began in January and since then Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and Manhattan Community Board 4 have each voted to approve the text amendment, sending it on its way to the City Planning Commission for its vote on April 25. The next step is a vote by the New York City Council, which is anticipated in late May or early June.
