This weekend, we’ll be celebrating NYC Pride with the debut of “Walking the High Line,” a special edition fine-art poster by NYC-based photographer Kevin McDermott. Beginning today, the 18" x 24" full-color poster will be available for $16 from our Merch Cart, located on the High Line at West 16th Street, or from the High Line Web Shop.

In the summer of 2005 and 2006, Kevin shot a fine-art series of nudes on the still undeveloped High Line. Living in a Chelsea apartment that overlooks the High Line, Kevin was inspired by the wild landscape stretching through the middle of New York City's dense urban environment.

“I discovered a secret way to get up on the tracks, so I ventured up with my camera and friend Micky Friedmann. Six years later, the tracks have become the now famous High Line park, and a photograph we took that day has become the striking image you see here in the poster.”

Kevin’s High Line photographs are a study in countering qualities – intimate, yet monumental; contemporary, yet historic; naked, yet elegant. The photograph in the poster was taken on the third and final section of the High Line at the rail yards, which is still overgrown with wildflowers and grasses that grew up between the tracks when the freight trains stopped running in the 1980s.

Stop by the Merch Cart to purchase your poster. The cart will be open between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM today and Saturday, and between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Sunday. You can also visit the High Line Web Shop, where you can find other fine-art posters by Joel Sternfeld, Paula Scher, and Michael DeFeo.
