This past fall Art21 stopped by the High Line to film the installation of El Anatsui’s HIGH LINE COMMISSION Broken Bridge II, located on a wall adjacent to the High Line between West 21st and West 22nd Streets.

Follow us after the jump to watch the video.

El Anatsui, who is based in Nigeria, discussed his commission for High Line Art and the importance of its location on an east-facing wall next to the park, where it reflects the surrounding city-scape, including the iconic Empire State Building. Measuring 157 feet wide by 37 feet high and consisting of recycled pressed tin and mirrors, Broken Bridge II is the largest outdoor work to date by the artist.

Art21 also spoke with Cecilia Alemani, the Donald R. Mullen Jr. Director & Curator of High Line Art and Production Manager Jordan Benke about the unique installation process and working with the artist.

Broken Bridge II will be on view through September, 2013.
