Photo of the Week: Hello, Summer

To mark the first day of summer, we’re sharing one of our favorite early summer blooms, Astilbe Chinensis 'Visions in Pink,' one of the many plant species thriving on the High Line this season. Photo by Steven Severinghaus

Texture and color are common themes in High Line Photographer Steven Severinghaus’ beautiful work. On the High Line the constant contrast of flowering plants and grasses growing up amongst concrete and steel against the backdrop of the city create a constant play of texture, line, and color, making the park a place many photographers, like Steven, return to document again and again. Here, Steven highlights Astilbe Chinensis 'Visions in Pink,' which you’ll find in bloom now on the High Line between Gansevoort and West 20th Streets.

Print out our June Bloom List to see how many plants you can identify along your walk this summer. Find a new guide every month on the Planting page.
