The High Line stays open year-round, and there’s always a good reason to come visit us. Here’s a guide to the High Line's public events this December.

Robert Hammond Farewell Talk

After more than 14 years of work preserving and transforming the High Line and inspiring new ways of thinking about the city, parks, public space, preservation, and community, Co-Founder Robert Hammond will be leaving Friends of the High Line at the end of 2013. Robert will share his reflections on the cultural institution he created with Co-Founder Joshua David in a public talk on December 5 at 6:00 PM. Come celebrate Robert’s dedication, vision, and leadership at this farewell event. Reserve your free tickets.

High Line Holiday Concert

Join us on Saturday, December 7, for our annual High Line Holiday Concert. This year's lineup features Brooklyn Express Drumline (B.E.D.), the Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Chorus, and – for the second year in a row – the New York City Housing Authority Youth Chorus. The free event runs from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at West 17th Street. High Line Food vendor La Newyorkina will offer delicious hot chocolate and treats for sale.

High Line Holiday Toy Drive

Between December 2 and December 16, we’ll be hosting the third-annual High Line Holiday Toy Drive, which benefits more than 300 Chelsea neighborhood children in need. To contribute, bring unwrapped presents for children ages 4 through 14 to the donation box in Chelsea Market between 1:00 and 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. At Posman Books, you can donate money to purchase toys or purchase them there yourself. We’ll also be collecting donations at the High Line Winter Concert.

The Gaits: A High Line Soundwalk

The High Line will also host The Gaits: A High Line Soundwalk, a musical event that turns your footsteps into a chorus of instruments as you walk along the High Line. To participate, simply download the iPhone or Android application and arrive at the Gansevoort entrance to the High Line at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, December 24. Bring headphones or a small portable speaker, or be one of the first 50 people to show up to borrow one of ours.
