Photo of the Week: New York City at Night

New York City is a city at its most enchanting after dark. The glow of neon signs, the patchwork of lit windows in tall buildings, and the jagged twinkling skyline of buildings in the distance bring new life to familiar forms. And, if it’s not obvious, we love, love, love night on the High Line.

Timothy Schenck’s nighttime aerial photograph combines a few of our favorite perspectives: a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline, a unique view of the park, and an animated evening sky. In the distance, One World Trade Center’s spire reaches past neighboring buildings and pierces the sky, and lights can be seen across the river in Hoboken, Jersey City, and beyond. In the foreground, usual 10th Avenue traffic ebbs and flows, and players run across the field in an evening soccer match. Chelsea – and New York City – are alive and buzzing with activity.
