Photo of the Week: Kevin Beasley Performance

Photos by Liz Ligon

This Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday High Line Art presented daily sound performances by artist Kevin Beasley, entitled Untitled Stanzas: Staff/Un/Site.

In preparation for his performances Kevin spent months gathering sounds from along the High Line: the chirps of crickets in the Chelsea Thicket, the banging of hammers at neighboring construction sites, and the hum of traffic along the West Side Highway, for example. He then distorted, layered, and mixed these sounds together in live performances at the Rail Yards. At each evening's performance he also collected sounds from the surrounding environment, which were then layered into the following evening's performance.

Between the soundscape created by the artist, the beautiful golden hour setting of the Rail Yards, and the sights and sounds of the landscape, the performance created an immersive experience of the High Line like none other.

Stay tuned for video from his High Line Performance, but in the meantime check out a previous performance by the artist at the Guggenheim.
