Join us as we reflect on the 2016 season of one of our most popular summer programs—the ¡Arriba!: Latin Dance Party. Drawing thousands of revelers, this year's installments of Friends of the High Line's beloved ¡Arriba! series were the energy-packed parties that nobody wanted to miss.
Each month, a new group of musical performers took over the park and filled the Chelsea Market Passage with irresistible, Latin-flavored sound, turning the High Line's planks into a pulsating dance floor. A highlight of each event were the Bombazo lessons that took place before each performer set stage.
We kicked off the season in June as performing legend Orlando Marin—"the last Mambo king"—brought out the dancer in everyone and was recognized by councilman Corey Johnson for his 65th musical anniversary. In July, the scorching heat didn't discourage any dancers as they poured in to groove to the sounds of Los Hacheros. And on August 3, visitors danced the night away with Aurora & Zon del Barrio.
We know it's hard to part ways with ¡Arriba! until next year, so we've picked out some of our favorite memories to tide you over until summer 2017. Check them out:
Don't put away your dancing shoes just yet! You can listen to ¡Arriba! artists below and practice on your own for next summer (we won't tell…).
