Our neighbor the Standard Hotel landed a nice New York Times review by Nicolai Ouroussoff yesterday. Ouroussoff points to the Standard's architects, Polshek Partnership,  as an example of a trend toward more "serious" firms looking for "the right balance between innovation and restraint."

Like the High Line? Want to help with our sister project? Now's your chance!

The Harsimus Stem Embankment, an elevated stone structure that runs for a half mile along 6th street in downtown Jersey City needs your help. The Embankment Preservation Coalition is the non-profit group working to preserve the Embankment, develop its top as  open space, and integrate the site into a network of local and regional pedestrian and biking trails.

As if we could love the Charlie Rose Show any more.

There's a lot of High Line talk at the beginning of this interview, plus discussion of Diller Scofidio + Renfro's other work: The Blur Building, the ICA in Boston, and of course the new Alice Tully Hall.

Thanks to everyone who turned up this morning in support of  the High Line at the City Council hearing on the Eastern Rail Yards rezoning. The committee room and another, larger overflow room were both filled to capacity with High Line supporters wearing  "Save the High Line" T-shirts. (To everyone who came, you sure do look sexy in red!) Thanks also to those who took their time to testify to the Committee-- so many passionate and well-spoken New Yorkers certainly made a big impression.

The new Broadway revival of West Side Story opened to great reviews last week, in no small part due to the steely strength of the supporting cast. Check out the tall, dark, and handsome stranger in the back – look familiar?
