Parade of Illuminations: Opening Procession for the PEN World Voices Festival

EnlargePAW

We’re pleased to partner with Processional Arts Workshop to bring performances to the High Line as part of the 8th Annual PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature.

Presenting the fleeting sense of literature in our time of technology, the Parade of Illuminations invites participants to capture pieces of text out of the air. Designed by Processional Arts Workshop and created in local community workshops, visual elements for the procession draw inspiration from the physical sense of books and the history of print, from ancient tablets of clay to modern tablets of light.

Come animate a puppet, catch strands of words, and celebrate literature in all its incarnations.

Learn more about the community puppet-making workshops.

LOCATION
Beginning at the High Line access point at West 30th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues

This program is free and open to visitors of all ages. No RSVP required.

You can also volunteer with Processional Arts Workshop to help animate puppets and other parade elements.
