You don’t need to leave the city to experience the natural world.

During this weekly drop-in program kids and their caregivers will have the chance to look closely at a leaf, watch a butterfly fly, or hold a wriggly worm in the palm of your hand. Each month focuses on a different topic, with fun activities each week. The months culminate with a Creature Feature activity showcasing a live High Line critter.

Join us in August to watch these New York natives grow from tiny caterpillars to beautiful butterflies! Each week we’ll use interactive art and science to explore their amazing transformation.

August 7: Caterpillars
This is where it all begins. Get to know these tiny caterpillars and learn how they depend on High Line plants to grow, then make your own caterpillar art to take home.

August 14: Chrysalis
Find out how caterpillars hide inside these tiny, hanging structures to transform into beautiful butterflies.

August 21: Wings
Become a scientist and get up close and personal with these brand new butterflies and their beautiful new wings.

August 28: Creature Feature with Butterfly Flight!
Join us to make your own wings, parade down the High Line and send these butterflies flying for the very first time.

At each Wild Wednesday, young builders can create one-of-a-kind vehicles, forts, structures, and machines with the High Line Children’s Workyard Kit, a crate of kid-friendly planks, nuts, bolts, and other custom materials by industrial designer Cas Holman.
