West works with “direct film,” or film realized without the use of a camera. She exposes the film strip to a variety of substances, such as coffee, mascara, and habanero sauce, or by staging interactive events where people perform actions to the film strip, like snowboarding or skateboarding directly on it. The results are vibrant, abstract short films. Learn more

Last Chance to See Kim Beck’s Rooftop Sculptures along the High Line

<a href="/sites/files/images/kim-beck.jpg" class="fancybox" title="For rooftops along the High Line, Kim Beck has created three sculptures resembling the skeletal framework of advertising billboards. Her work, called Space Available, is now on view. Photo by Bill Orcutt.">

For almost a year, Kim Beck’s skeletal sculptures, reminiscent of empty billboard frames, have been installed on three rooftops next to the southern end of the High Line. Now as the exhibit, Space Available, is drawing to a close, we’d like to invite you out one more time to enjoy her work before the sculptures are taken down next week.
