Greater Gansevoort Urban Improvement Project Holds Meeting

On Monday, October 16, The Greater Gansevoort Improvement Project (GGUIP), a new grassroots community group, held a meeting to discuss a comprehensive traffic and pedestrian study. The group is led by Jo Hamilton and Florent Morellet, who pioneered the efforts to create the Gansevoort Market Historic District. GGUIP is currently planning a study to assess open-space opportunities and vehicular and pedestrian safety in the area between West 16th and Gansevoort Streets, and Ninth Avenue/Hudson Street and the Hudson River. Working with consultants the Sam Schwartz Company and the Regional Plan Association, GGUIP will be collecting street and sidewalk inventories. The findings of the study will be released at GGUIP's next meeting in January and improvements will be suggested based on the findings and community input.
