High Line and Fulton Youth of the Future Open the Park's First Greenmarket

There is a new way to purchase fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables in West Chelsea. Friends of the High Line is partnering with Fulton Youth of the Future, a non-profit community organization within the Robert Fulton Houses that helps teens gain career skills, to bring the first greenmarket to the High Line as part of High Line Food, a program connecting New Yorkers to the region's sustainable farms. The teens are starting small, with a market table open at The Lot every Tuesday from 2:00 to 7:00 PM until October.

The High Line and Rainbow City presented by AOL will close at 6:00 PM on Monday, July 4 due to expected crowds for the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks display on the Hudson River. Regular park hours will resume on Tuesday, July 5.
Below the High Line at West 30th Street, The Lot on Tap will be operating at regular hours on Monday, July 4, opening at 12:00 PM and closing at 10:00 PM.

The High Line and Rainbow City presented by AOL will close at 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 26 due to expected crowds for the New York City Pride festivities in Chelsea. Regular park hours will resume on Monday, June 27.
Below the High Line at West 30th Street, The Lot and the Lot on Tap will be operating at regular hours on Sunday, June 26. The Lot and The Lot on Tap open at 11:00 AM and close at 10:00 PM.
Park Update: 23rd Street Lawn Temporarily Closed
The 23rd Street Lawn is a favorite new gathering space on the High Line, offering open green space for picnicking, sunbathing, and people-watching. Rejuvenation plays a major role in sustaining the Lawn. To this end, the Lawn will be temporarily closed at times throughout the busy season to allow the grass to recover after periods of heavy rain and foot traffic. The Lawn will be temporarily closed and it will reopen as soon as possible. This will help keep the Lawn a welcoming green space all season long.

This summer only, Friends of the High Line presents The Lot, a public plaza below the High Line at 30th Street. The Lot features the High Line Rink, a new, outdoor rollerskating rink, as well as a rotating series of food trucks and The Lot on Tap, an outdoor beer and wine bar operated by Friends of the High Line and Colicchio & Sons.

Teens from around the city turn the High Line into their stage during Step to the High Line, a week-long festival of step performances. Beginning Monday, a different step team performs their routine on the High Line each day of the week. On Saturday, the festival culminates in a showcase of all step teams, as well as a special guest appearance by Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and an interactive, family-friendly learn-to-step workshop led by teens from Christopher Columbus High Line.

Friends of the High Line is pleased to present Trisha Brown Dance Company’s recreation of Roof Piece. Positioned on rooftops along the southern terminus of the High Line, nine dancers mimic each other’s movements in an improvised and mutable series of dances. Performances will take place Thursday, June 9, Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11.

Earlier today, we stood with Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Speaker Christine Quinn, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, Congressman Jerrold Nadler, and other leaders and supporters to cut the ribbon on the new section of the High Line. Following the event, the new section was opened to park visitors. Wednesday, June 8, will be the first full day the new section is open to the public. The opening of the new section doubles the length of the public park. After years of planning, design and construction, the High Line is now one mile long, running from Gansevoort Street to West 30th Street, connecting the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea, and Hell's Kitchen.
