High Line Art: Carol Bove’s Caterpillar at the Rail Yards

UPDATE: Due to heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted this afternoon, all scheduled walks for Thursday, May 23rd of Carol Bove’s High Line Commission “Caterpillar” have been canceled. For more information, email art@thehighline.org

Presented by Friends of the High Line, High Line Art has commissioned Carol Bove to present Caterpillar, an installation consisting of seven large-scale sculptures on the High Line at the Rail Yards.

View the commission during art walks taking place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until May, 2014. Tickets are free. Advance reservations are required.

Reservations are full through Saturday, August 3, 2013. Check back in mid-June when reservations will be available for walks taking place in late summer and the fall.

Now Open: Terroir at The Porch Returns for Another Season

Paul Grieco and Marco Canora's popular wine bar, Terroir, is once again operating a seasonal location at The Porch, the open-air café on the High Line.

Stop by to take in views of the Hudson River while enjoying savory dishes and cold, refreshing drinks from Terroir’s wine and beer list, which highlights artisanal wineries and breweries from New York State

Now on View: New Art Video on HIGH LINE CHANNEL 14

Presented by Friends of the High Line, High Line Art has invited Dutch artist Guido von der Werve to show his 9-minute video – Nummer negen, the day I didn’t turn with the world – at the park.

The film, which features time-lapse photography taken over a 24-hour period at the North Pole, is projected daily on a loop within the 14th Street Passage, on the High Line at West 14th Street.

Spring Cutback: Preparing the Park’s Landscape for a New Season

The High Line's plants are not trimmed back at the onset of cold weather in the fall. Instead they are left intact to provide structure, beauty, and habitat throughout the winter. That means when spring arrives, we work quickly to cut back the High Line’s more than 100,000 plants make way for fresh green growth.

With generous support from Google, REI, and Toyota, hundreds of volunteers help us get the job done. In March, High Line Gardeners work side-by-side with students, neighbors, and friends to ready the landscape for the upcoming growing season.

Last Chance: Check Out 'Lilliput' and 'Lying Figure'

Stop by the High Line to view two popular High Line Art installations – Thomas Houseago's Lying Figure and the group exhibition Lilliput – before they are de-installed this month.

Houseago's bronze sculpture of a headless giant that rests between the High Line's original rail tracks will be de-installed on Friday, March 15. Inspired by Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels, the monumental installation contrasts the small-scale Lilliput sculptures, which will be de-installed by Monday, April 1.

Leadership Transition at Friends of the High Line

We are about to begin an exciting new chapter in the life of the High Line.

Friends of the High Line Co-Founder Robert Hammond today announced his intent to step down at the end of the year. Together with Co-Founder Joshua David, Robert has worked tirelessly for 14 years to build the High Line and make it into a beloved public space.

There will also be changes to the Board of Directors of Friends of the High Line. The Board has voted to elect John Alschuler and Catie Marron as Co-Chairs of the Board, and Board member Mario Palumbo as Vice Chair. Next year, John will step down from the chairmanship, and Catie will become the Board’s Chair.
