High Line Holiday Toy Drive

Help bring toys and holiday cheer to more than 300 Chelsea neighborhood children in need.

Through December 16, bring new, unwrapped gifts for kids between the ages of 3 and 15 to the High Line Toy Drive drop-off box inside Chelsea Market between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. You can also bring your gift to the High Line Hotel, located at 180 10th Avenue, at any time through December 16. In addition, you can contribute by purchasing a toy or donating money for the High Line Toy Drive at Posman Books in Chelsea Market.

After more than 14 years of work preserving and transforming the High Line and inspiring new ways of thinking about the city, parks, public space, preservation, and community, Co-Founder Robert Hammond will be leaving Friends of the High Line at the end of 2013.

Robert will share his reflections on the cultural institution he created with Co-Founder Joshua David in a public talk on December 5 at 6:00 PM. Come celebrate Robert’s dedication, vision, and leadership at this farewell event.

We've unveiled our latest design concept for the Spur, a wide section of the High Line at the Rail Yards that extends over 10th Avenue at West 30th Street.

Visitors to this unique area of the High Line will be able to immerse themselves in nature by entering a bowl-shaped structure ringed with broad-leaf woodland grasses, perennials and ferns. See the just-released renderings on our blog.

Tickets will be released on Tuesday, November 12, at 4:00 PM (EST) for December art walks of Carol Bove’s High Line Commission Caterpillar, a series of seven large-scale sculptures installed on the High Line at the Rail Yards.

Would you like to see an artist deep-fry a saxophone? Join Jamal Cyrus in the 14th Street Passage at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 16, for his performance Texas Fried Tenor (2012). Following Cyrus's dynamic soundscape, artist Benjamin Patterson will perform a new work, A Penny for Your Thoughts, at 2:45 PM. Patterson, a founding member of avant-garde artist group Fluxus, will offer participants newspaper hats in exchange for an idea, imbuing the performance with a sense of humor. Both performances are part of Performa 13.
