Turn your footsteps into sound as you stroll the High Line. The Gaits: A High Line Soundwalk is a free musical event at 3:30 PM on Friday, December 21.

To join the fun, download a free iPhone application that uses the phone’s accelerometer to turn footsteps into twinkling metallic sounds, electric guitar chords, water splashes, car horns, and applause. Bring your own portable speakers or be one of the first 50 people to arrive and get the chance to borrow a free, wearable speaker.

The High Line will be open daily, from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, during the winter holidays.

December is a great time to visit the park. In keeping with Piet Oudolf’s vision, plants are left intact through the winter, rather than trimmed back as temperatures drop. This month you'll see colorful winter blooms, like Dawn viburnum pictured at right, set against dried grasses and seed heads from the past growing season.

Download our December Bloom List, a free printable guide with names and full-color photographs to help you identify plants during your next visit.
