This weekend, artist Kim Beck is leading two public programs involving Space Available, the sculptures installed on rooftops of buildings around the southern end of the High Line. On Friday, May 6, Kim will lead an artist talk about the evolution of Space Available and her other work addressing overlooked and marginal spaces. On Saturday, May 7, Kim will lead a family arts workshop that explores the world above the streets of New York.

The High Line is open daily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Summer hours continue through the fall. Evening is a great time to visit the High Line—the sunsets are spectacular over the Hudson River, and the lighting system designed by L'Observatoire International casts a gentle illumination on the spring plantings to create a warm and welcoming mood at dusk. Please check the High Line Web site or follow the High Line on Twitter for the latest information and operational updates.

EnlargeHigh Line Food

On Friday, March 18, Friends of the High Line released the first public request for proposals for food carts on the High Line for the 2011 Season. Since the High Line opened in 2009, park visitors regularly request food and beverage during their visits. FHL is looking for partners who will create food that is as thoughtful, creative, and interesting as the High Line itself and who want to build a strong partnership and active collaboration with the High Line.

The food and beverage will enhance the High Line experience, while drawing from the bounty of the region's sustainable farmers, ranchers, and purveyors. The food offerings, like the plantings on the Line itself, should reflect seasonality. Offerings should be welcoming, interesting, and accessible, and the menu should satisfy individuals visiting the park for a moment of quiet solitude, as well as groups of friends and families out to socialize and engage the city.

Neighbors, friends, supporters, and more are invited to join Friends of the High Line for a special evening of food, drink, conversation, and fun. Since the High Line opened to the public, the top request from visitors is for food and beverage concessions in the park. In response, Friends of the High Line is developing a comprehensive plan to offer this public amenity at the High Line later this summer. Mingle with your friends and neighbors, enjoy food and beverages sourced from local farmers, and learn more about the vision and guiding principles for High Line Food. Visit our Event Calendar to RSVP.
