HUDSON
RIVER PARK -- $70 MILLION AT STAKE – LETTERS, FAXES NEEDED!!
Hudson River Park is only 20% complete. Another $200 million is needed to finish it. There is a chance to get $70 million of this from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, which controls $1.2 billion in Federal money to be used south of Houston Street. For $70 million, a mile of Hudson River Park could be built in Tribeca, providing incredible relief for local and downtown residents and huge recreational benefits for all New Yorkers. A decision will be made soon on the $1.2 billion – and this is the CRITICAL moment to try to persuade the Governor, the Mayor and John C. Whitehead, Chairman of the LMDC, to approve the $70 million for the Park. I am asking you, as supporters of Hudson River Park, to write, fax, or call Mr. Whitehead, Governor Pataki, Mayor Bloomberg and Kevin Rampe, President of the LMDC, urging them to support the full $70 million for the Park. A draft letter / fax follows, which you can cut and paste into your own letter or fax. Or write whatever you want. What is important is that you SEND SOMETHING. And please send me a copy at the address / fax noted below. Dear Chairman Whitehead, Governor Pataki, Mayor Bloomberg and Mr. Rampe, I am writing to ask you to support allocating $70 million of CDBG funds to build the Tribeca section of Hudson River Park. I know there are many competing projects, but none is more important for New Yorkers than Hudson River Park -- none will provide such significant contributions to the quality of life Downtown and in the City. Please take the lead in ensuring that the full $70 million is approved for the Park.
