LETTERS
NEEDED NOW: HELP
THE HIGH LINE SECURE FEDERAL FUNDS TO ASSURE ITS FUTURE
Please help us secure the High Line's future right now. We
need you to write
letters
to Senators
Schumer
and
Clinton
and
Representative Nadler requesting federal funds (instructions and sample
text provided below).
Congress
is now negotiating the reauthorization of the TEA 21 transportation
bill—one of the biggest public funding sources
for projects like the High Line.
These bills are negotiated
only once every six years. We won't have another chance
like this until 2010. A major funding allocation will help
secure the High Line's future.
Please write letters to Senator Schumer,
Senator Clinton, and Representative Nadler asking that they
dedicate as much
funding as possible to the High Line as a "High
Priority Project".
We've made it easy for you.
Instructions and sample
text are included in this newsletter.

Re: High Line Funding in TEA 21 Reauthorization
Dear Senator
Schumer,
Thank you for your successful request to include $500,000
for the High Line's reuse in the 2004 Transportation
Appropriations Bill. These funds will be integral to the
revitalization of one of New York's most precious transportation
assets, creating an open space of great beauty that will
enrich New Yorkers' lives for decades to come.
Your
support in the next few months is crucial to making the High
Line project become a reality. The reauthorization
of TEA 21 can bring such momentum to the project that the
structure's future role as a transportation option,
an innovative open space, and economic engine for New York
City will be assured.
We respectfully urge you to dedicate
as much funding as possible to the High Line when High Priority
Projects are
added to the Senate Bill.
The High Line faces a window of
real opportunity—but
the window won't remain open forever. A major funding
allocation in the TEA 21 reauthorization will ensure the
success of this pioneering initiative. It is essential
that we work together to bring momentum and inevitability
to the
project now, when the will of elected officials is galvanized
behind it.
Thank you for your consideration and the support
you've
given to the High Line to date.
Sincerely,

You've been a visionary champion of the High Line

always be grateful. But we've reached a crucial moment.
The support you show right now will be what makes the High
