Earth Day on the High Line

Join us to celebrate the end of High Line Spring Cutback and the beginning of spring with a day of community festivities at the High Line on Sunday, April 22.

The day will begin at 10:00 AM with a participatory art event by Alison Knowles, who will restage her performance of Make a Salad, in which she mixes a giant salad and serves it to the crowd.

From 2:00 - 4:00 PM, bring the kids to Earth Day in the Sky to dance to tunes by the On the Lam Brass Band, make your mark on our 15-foot mural, and get dirty creating wildflower seed balls to plant your own native garden at home.

We hope you’ll also stop by our Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at 11:00 AM to join us in thanking our dedicated volunteers for their contributions during Spring Cutback, our largest horticultural task of the year. Throughout the day you can also chat one-on-one with our gardeners or High Line Greeters to learn more about the park’s unique design, history, horticulture, art, and more.

Announcing a New Season of High Line Food

The beginning of a new season of High Line Food is right around the corner.

Returning to the High Line are last year’s favorites Blue Bottle Coffee, L’Arte del Gelato, Melt Bakery, People’s Pops, and La Newyorkina. These vendors will all be back in the park by Saturday, April 21, just in time for Earth Day.

Later in the season we’ll be welcoming new food options to the Chelsea Market Passage, on the High Line at West 15th Street, and a new partner, Terroir, who will serve wine, beer, and an assortment of panini and salads at The Porch, the open-air café on the High Line at West 15th Street.

Read more about the upcoming season of High Line Food.

PEN World Voices Festival at the High Line

We’re pleased to partner with Processional Arts Workshop to bring performances to the High Line as part of the 8th Annual PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature.

On Monday, April 30, the Parade of Illuminations on the High Line will feature visual elements and larger-than-life puppets designed by Processional Arts Workshop and created in local community workshops drawing inspiration from the unique anatomy of books and the history of print, from ancient tablets of clay to modern tablets of light.

Come animate a puppet, catch strands of text, and celebrate literature in all its incarnations.

New Monthly Bloom Guide

We’re pleased to announce new plant guides that will bring added depth to your next visit.

As our staff and volunteers trimmed back dried plant material, spring bulbs and new growth have popped up everywhere. It seems like new blooms are appearing daily. To help identify these plants of interest, we're debuting new downloadable monthly guides that feature names and full-color photographs for plants in bloom along the entire High Line.

Download our brand-new bloom guide for April.

Also available is our 2012 Plant Guide, a full-color guide to over 70 of our favorite plants. It features an enhanced map of the park's twelve distinct landscape zones, and includes images and information about some of the High Line's most popular plants, including plant names, origins, and growing conditions and seasons.

Visit our Merchandise and Membership Cart in the park, beginning Saturday, April 21, or our Web Shop, to purchase a copy.

Throughout the year, our staff has been planning to make this season the High Line’s best yet, with twenty blocks of thriving gardens … exciting new programs … interactive performances … and much, much more.
