National Night Out involves 15,000 communities across the United States and Canada, and even military bases abroad, with a goal of promoting safe communities and neighborhood camaraderie.

The Chelsea National Night Out street festival featured live music from Orlando Marin, thanks to Hudson Guild , water slides, bouncy castles, and a petting zoo sponsored by Friends of the High Line – all along a stretch of 17th Street. At the High Line station neighborhood kids were able to make colorful sand art planters and try a hand at building with the Children’s Workyard Kit. A few artistic High Line staff members even moonlighted as face-painters, decorating children's faces with imaginative illustrations – everything from butterflies to Spiderman.
It was a great day all around and we were thrilled to reconnect with our closest neighbors.
High Line Visual Media Fellow Amelia Krales joined the activities to capture these photos of High Line Staff – and petting zoo alpacas – in action.
