Tours of the High Line are an excellent way to learn more about the park's history, design, public artworks, and horticulture. Tours include information on the structure's history and Friends of the High Line's role in the preservation and reuse of the High Line as a public park. High Line tours last approximately one hour and are wheelchair accessible.

All High Line Tours begin at the 14th Street Passage—the semi-enclosed area on the High Line at West 14th Street—and move north along the park.

You can take the stairs or the elevator near the corner of the 10th Avenue and 14th Street to go up onto the High Line, then walk to the right (or south) to find the 14th Street Passage.

PRIVATE GROUP TOURS

To request a private tour, please complete an Online Scheduling Request Form [3]. All requests must be received three weeks in advance of the preferred tour date.

High Line Private Group Tours are scheduled based on the availability of our High Line Docents. Upon receipt of a request, we begin the process of scheduling docents. In consideration of their time and support, we take every effort to minimize cancellations. Therefore, we require a $50 deposit for all tour requests.

Please note that filling out an Online Scheduling Request Form does not confirm your tour, as tours are given based on the availability of a High Line Docent.

PAYMENT
Private Group Tours are paid tours that help fund the 450+ free public programs and activities organized each year by Friends of the High Line.

Group tour rates are as follows:
1 - 12 guests: $250
13 - 20 guests: $350
21 - 30 guests: $500
31 - 40 guests: $600

A $50 credit card deposit, via PayPal, is required upon submission of all requests. If your tour is booked, you will receive an email notification with your scheduled date and time, along with a link to submit your balance.

Upon notification, you will have five business days to submit payment for your balance. Once your tour is paid in full, you will receive detailed information about your tour, along with a receipt. Please note that all payments are non-refundable.

If we do not receive your balance, your tour will be cancelled and your $50 deposit will be forfeited.

If we are unable to book your tour, you will not be charged.

TUESDAY TOURS

During the warmer months of the year, visitors are welcome to participate in a free, guided walking tour every Tuesday at 6:30 PM. Walking tours are led by High Line Docents — volunteers with expertise on the High Line's history, design, horticulture, art, and more. Tuesday Tours take place weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, cancellations will be announced by 12:00 PM on the date of the tour on this Web page and to followers of @highlinenyc on Twitter [4]

Tuesday Tours for the 2013 season will run from Tuesday, May 7 to Tuesday, September 24.

LOCATION
The tour will meet on the West side of the 14th Street Passage, on the High Line just south of the 14th Street Elevator door. You can take the stairs or elevator to go up on the High Line, then walk to the right (or south) to meet the group. Look for the High Line staff member with a clipboard to sign up.

Tuesday Tours are free, but space is limited according to the number of guides available. If one High Line Docent is available the tour is limited to 20 people and if two High Line Docents are available the tour is limited to 40 people. Please arrive by 6:15 PM to guarantee a spot. The tour begins promptly at 6:30 PM.

High Line Docents are generously supported by REI, and, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

       

SPECIAL PROGRAM TOURS

Friends of the High Line also offers tours at other times throughout the warmer months as part of its ongoing public programs. These tours provide and insider's look into High Line history, design, horticulture, art, and food, and are offered by Friends of the High Line staff members and occasionally in conjunction with partners in New York City.

Pricing for these tours is $10 for members [6], $15 for non-members. Please visit the Event Calendar [7] to view the schedule.

Because the High Line is elevated and exposed to the elements, please be aware that weather conditions can be different than on the street-level. If it is hot, it is possible that it will be hotter on the High Line. If it is cold and windy, it may likely be colder and windier on the High Line. Therefore, it is important that you are dressed appropriately.
