If you haven't already caught glimpses of the High Line dressed in white, check out this snow-strewn photo that our Maintenance & Operations staff took this weekend.

 

In order to clear the snow, the crew used various tools and equipment including: a Bobcat mini-tracker with spinning broom, power brooms, push brooms, snow-blowers, shovels, and eco-friendly ice melt. Brooms (and power brooms) are the best way to remove snow safely and efficiently from the concrete planking and pathways.

 

Snow removal started Saturday afternoon around 3:00 PM, finished for the night with the park's closing around 8:30 PM, and then began again on Sunday morning at 7:00 AM. As the snow began to fall steadily on Saturday, the prepared staff and Park Rangers began sweeping and shoveling to keep the High Line's paths snow-free.

Sunday, it took several hours to remove the white piles from stairways and walkways that had gathered overnight. The park's access points opened to eagerly awaiting snow-lovers, who climbed up at 11:00 AM. It took as many as ten staff members to remove snow in preparation for the park's opening that morning.

 

The High Line will be open through the holidays with regular operating hours (7AM-8PM), weather dependent. Please check back with our website [2] and twitter [3] to get updates on late openings or early closings.
