Photo of the Week: Wild Wednesday Butterfly Release [1]
Submitted by Erika Harvey on
On Wednesday, we invited kids and their caretakers to release butterflies into the park’s planting beds, and watch as they spread their wings to take their first flight. Photo by Rowa Lee [2]This week, young participants at [3] were treated to an extra special event. After spending the past four weeks learning about butterflies and watching tiny caterpillars grow and build chrysalises, the kids helped release 40 newly-hatched butterflies into the park’s planting beds.
Taken by Rowa Lee [2], our photo of the week shows Kylah Bruno, our High Line Kids Play Leader and graduate of our High Line Youth Corps, gently helping a butterfly prepare to fly off into the park.
Thanks to MetLife Foundation, we are able to host Wild Wednesdays every week in the summer. Bring the kids and join us for Wild Wednesdays [4] in August to learn about nature’s composters: worms.
