It’s official: the High Line’s spring hours will begin on Monday, April 1.
Beginning on Monday, the park will be open daily, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Summer hours will begin on Saturday, June 1, with the park remaining open one hour later, until 11:00 PM.
Since Hurricane Sandy swept through New York City, we have worked closely with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation to restore the High Line’s electricity and other critical utilities. We were fortunate that the park’s plantings, design features, and artworks were in such great shape following the storm, but the surge from the Hudson River filled the park’s underground utility vaults with salt water. These vaults contain the park’s connections to the City’s utility grids, and corrosive effects of the salt water caused permanent damage that has since impacted the High Line’s gates, elevators, lights, emergency phones, plumbing, and mechanical systems — all of which are necessary to ensure the safety and comfort of park visitors.
Since the storm, the High Line has been operating on a limited schedule as the Parks Department and Friends of the High Line worked to restore the park’s utilities. This week, crews finished repairing the electric system, which means the park’s lighting is back just in time for spring hours to begin as in previous years on Monday, April 1.Art Map , Bloom List , or Self-Guided Visit to complement your trip.
You can access the High Line via stairs at each of the park’s nine access points, as well as elevators at West 14th, West 16th, and West 30th Streets. Unfortunately, the elevator at West 23rd Street will remain out of service until further notice, as the underground vault that powers the elevator needs to be fully rebuilt.
Thank you for helping us face these challenges and care for the High Line's infrastructure. To help get the park’s utilities restored as quickly as possible, we will continue to count on our dedicated members and friends like you. If you're able and wish to support our clean-up efforts , you can make a contribution on our Web site.
