High Line Teens
Building upon Friends of the High Line’s Community Engagement Initiative, High Line Teen Programs respond to park neighbors’ desire for more activities and events for teens, job training and employment opportunities for local youth, and horticulture learning opportunities at the High Line.
Led by High Line Educators, this education and job-training program offers local teens hands-on experience in horticulture and sustainability. For six months, teens attend workshops in environmental stewardship, meet professionals from green jobs across the city, and work side-by-side High Line Gardeners to weed, prune, and tend the park’s landscape.
Teen Arts Council
The Teen Arts Council (TAC) is comprised of local teens who design, plan, and produce two events on the High Line each summer. Teens spend six months meeting with professionals in music, film, and the arts; visiting cultural events across the city; and working in teams to develop events from start to finish, including curation, marketing, outreach, and event production.
Summer Youth Corps
The Summer Youth Corps is a partnership with local community center Hudson Guild. Each summer, three teens from the Guild’s POWER UP program spend three months assisting High Line Educators in facilitating weekly drop-in kids activities at the High Line. Summer Youth Corps members also assist High Line Gardeners, Custodians, and Rangers in other aspects of parks operation, from gardening to maintenance to visitor services.
