Janani Balasubramanian’s new work “Heisenberg” is an invitation to participate in an audio-based immersive reality game that explores concepts of uncertainty and chaos. Players start at the beginning of time and move through a series of matter/energy transformations, each emphasizing the limits of personal understanding—a cue from the piece’s namesake, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle—to learn a deep, fantastic secret that’s been hiding brilliantly in plain sight.

Now in its second year, Out of Line presents a new set of arresting, intriguing, and playful performances by some of New York City’s most exciting contemporary artists.

Janani Balasubramanian is a writer of speculative fiction whose art and editorial work has been featured in The New Yorker, Guernica, Creative Time Reports, and more. Balasubramanian’s work has been presented at more than 160 stages across North America and Europe, including The Public Theater, MOMA, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tina Hanaé Miller is a composer, musician, and writer. Prior to Heisenberg, T-H has created sound for Odyssey Works, Thin Fire, and the E/O Collective, and has also studied audio engineering under John Vanderslice at Tiny Telephone. Otherwise, T-H has toured nationally as a keyboard player for Cruel Youth, and makes shintofuturist music under the moniker tïna-hanäé, a project which will be releasing an EP later in 2017.

Solomon Hoffman is a NYC based composer, orchestrator and arranger. His arrangements have been featured at 54 Below, Ars Nova, Broadway Advocacy Coalition, Dixon Place, FringeNYC, Juilliard Drama, (le) poisson rouge, Lincoln Center and SubCulture. He is the founder of The Songwriter’s Orchestra, an innovative 12-piece chamber orchestra. Solomon graduated from Columbia University, where he composed the Varsity Show twice. He is an artist-in-residence at the Reconstructionist Synagogue of the North Shore.
