Rainfall Pavillion

Cui Jie (b. 1983, Shanghai, China; lives in Shanghai, China)

Rainfall Pavilion combines traditional shapes inspired by the open-roofed Lakeside Pavilion in Hong Kong designed by architect Chung Wah-nan with the form of a red-crowned crane. The sound of the rainfall, significantly amplified by this design, creates a contemplative atmosphere. This “modern” pavilion explores how architecture and public sculptures inform each other within the cityscape, alongside the politics from which they arise and exist within.
