Hu Xiaoyuan

Corolla on a Wasteland

Hu Xiaoyuan (b. 1977, Harbin, China; lives in Beijing, China)

Hu Xiaoyuan creates a fountain composed of seemingly abstract imagery, all of which references different animals’ and plants’ relationships to water, such as barnacles, gibbons, lizards, and butterflies. The artist imagines the cold-seeming, abstracted sculpture as a gentle, living fountain powered by solar panels.
