Karyn Olivier

Talking Obelisk

Karyn Olivier (b. 1968, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago) lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Talking Obelisk reiterates in bronze an obelisk Olivier fabricated in Rome from cardboard boxes and dirt. The large scale iteration for the High Line features a pyramidion fabricated using gold-covered solar panels which light at night. Text on the obelisk’s base comments on the industrial, cultural, and real estate powers of West Chelsea.
