Mungo Thomson is a Los Angeles-based artist who works with film, sound, sculpture, and photography. Appropriating and transforming sound and space, his practice often transforms everyday objects and situations into unexpected experiences in which music plays an important part.
For the High Line, Thomson presents his performance Crickets for the first time in New York City and in an outdoor setting. A music composition performed by a live orchestra consisting of violins, flutes, and percussion mimic the sound of crickets based on field recording of ambient sound from different parks and forests from around the world. Crickets was first performed indoors in Los Angeles as part of the Pacific Standard Time Public Art and Performance Festival. High Line Art has staged Crickets outdoors in the park, as the artist had originally envisioned it, transforming the High Line into an open field with the sounds of crickets in summer. Crickets is composed and conducted by Michael Webster.

Mungo Thomson (b. 1969, California) is a Los Angeles-based artist who has upcoming exhibitions in 2014 at ArtPace, San Antonio and the Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver. Recent solo exhibitions include SITE Santa Fe (2013); the Times Museum, Guangzhou, China (2013); the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2008); The Kadist Art Foundation, Paris (2007); and GAMeC, Bergamo, Italy (2006), among others. His work has been included in The Pacific Standard Time Public Art and Performance Festival, Los Angeles (2012); Untitled (12th Istanbul Biennial), Istanbul, Turkey (2011); The 2008 Whitney Biennial, New York (2008); and Performa 05, New York (2005), among others. In 2013, LAXART and JRP|Ringier will publish the musical score forCrickets.
