To meet the demands of our busiest time of the year, we ask all friends of the High Line to help us raise a total of $30,000—$1,000 for each block of our 1.5-mile-long park along Manhattan’s West Side.

FLEET, From Slaveship to Spaceship

Satch Hoyt (b. 1957, London, England; lives in Berlin, Germany)

FLEET, From Slaveship to Spaceship comprises five suspended canoes made from plastic water bottles, each representing one of the five boroughs of New York City. Cradled by the breeze, the canoes float about the High Line, reflecting and fluctuating the sunlight. These transparent vessels also pay homage to the Indigenous historical inhabitants of the region.
