A Gesture of Belonging
Usha Seejarim (b. 1974, Bethal, South Africa) lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. A Gesture of Belonging is a cast cement high-heeled shoe with a chrome base under the toe that looks like a domestic iron and a three-pin electric plug under the heel. The work serves as a recognition of the rise of the female voice and the complex nature of that voice.
