Zafos Xagoraris

Monument of Fallen Monuments

Zafos Xagoraris (b. 1963, Athens, Greece) lives and works in Athens, Greece. Monument of Fallen Monuments is a mound of fallen statues: nine traditional bronze statues stacked one on top of the next, on their sides or lying face down. The work references those statues—of male politicians, army officers, kings, emperors, and, in this case, a standard bearer of a colorless flag—who represent power typified as a singular male figure.
