Align your mind and body at wellness programs

Get moving on the High Line! People of all ages are invited to exercise, have fun, and connect with one another during our upcoming spring, summer, and fall wellness activities. Classes include Senior Stretch, Tai Chi, Zumba, and Afro-Brazilian dance. The High Line’s wellness classes are intergenerational and geared towards the unique needs of older adults. Free and open to the public.

In our Senior Stretch fitness classes, taught by instructor Teresa Cuevas, movements are specifically designed to realign the skeletal system, while gently toning and elongating muscles.

Senior Stretch sessions will be offered from 12:30 – 2pm on the following dates:

Tai Chi, the ultimate mind and body workout, involves slow, fluid, continuous movements throughout formalized postures of centuries-old Chinese Taoist martial arts.

Taught by instructor Pin Pin Su, Tai Chi sessions will be offered on the High Line from from 10:30am – noon on the following dates:

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements. Zumba will be taught by instructor Maria Assis Silva and will be offered on the High Line Spur at 30th Street on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 10:30am to noon.

Finally, our Afro-Brazilian dance class is a unique and fun dance combination of Samba reggae from Bahia, Rio de Janerio, and West African and Latino beats. This class will also be taught by our instructor Maria Assis Silva. The Afro-Brazilian dance class will take place on the High Line Spur at 30th Street on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 10:30am to noon.

For first-time participants, our Tai Chi instructor Pin Pin Su has a few tips.

  1. Arrive with no expectations and no judgements on your own ability. These classes are designed for everyone to enjoy.
  2. Take your time with participating, ask questions, and be open to the experience.
  3. Be sure to relax your body when participating. There is power in relaxing your body!
