Meet the High Line’s Wellness instructors

June 25, 2024

Move, relax, and celebrate with us! As part of our ongoing 15th birthday celebrations, the High Line will host a special edition of its popular wellness classes for West Side Fest on July 13. The morning will be filled with rotating classes of Tai Chi, Senior Stretch, and Zumba. Each 25-minute class will give participants a snapshot of the High Line’s Wellness Program and a chance to work with our beloved expert instructors, Pin Pin Su, Teresa Cuevas, and Maria Assis.

The event is just one part of the second annual West Side Fest, a celebration of arts and culture on the West Side of Manhattan. From July 12 to July 14, members of the West Side Cultural Network (WSCN)—including the High Line and more than 20 museums, parks, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions located within a half-mile portion of historic New York—will present a variety of free special programming all weekend long, including artmaking, workshops, dancing, crafts, and more.

Tai Chi on the High Line

Pin Pin Su
Tai Chi

Pin Pin Su teaches tai chi in conjunction with qi gong, with the philosophy that mind, body, and spirit are all interrelated. She combines her Eastern medicinal healing roots with a Western twist for an all-encompassing mind/body experience. When not in a classroom, she has private patients who come to her for one-on-one expressive therapy.

Teresa Cuevas teaches Senior Stretch

Teresa Cuevas
Senior Stretch

Teresa Cuevas is a dance and fitness educator from Brooklyn, New York. Throughout her career in education, she has had the opportunity to teach all ages and abilities—including special needs in school, studio, recreation, and fitness facilities. Teresa currently teaches classes for individuals living with dementia at Queens Community House. Teresa’s philosophy on fitness education stems not only from her fitness training and dance background but also her extensive education in anatomy, kinesiology, and neurology.

Zumba on the High Line

Maria Assis

Maria Assis Silva is a dance and fitness instructor from Brazil who has been teaching for 18 years. Her practice is primarily focused on seniors, and she currently teaches all around New York, including at the NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital.
