After years of advocacy work, design, and construction, the park’s northernmost section – the High Line at the Rail Yards – is finally opening on Sunday, September 21. In celebration, we’re hosting a week of special programs for visitors of all ages. You’re invited to participate in a morning wellness class, stop by for a lunchtime concert, let the kids play with cool new design features, and so much more.

In addition to special, Opening Week–only events, we’ve included regular events that occur during this time frame. The description will indicate whether the program is ongoing.

High Line Art

Adrián Villar Rojas, The Evolution of God
September 21–Summer 2015
High Line at the Rail Yards

Artist Adrián Villar Rojas has created a series of abstract sculptures for the unique space of the High Line at the Rail Yards. The sculptures themselves are composed partly with seeds, vegetables, and compost from the High Line. Over the course of the yearlong installation, Rojas’s seemingly sturdy sculptures will crumble and sprout new growth, gradually taking on a greater resemblance to the surrounding landscape.

Louise Lawler, Triangle (adjusted to fit)
Through October 1, 2014
West 18th Street

For the High Line, Louise Lawler presents an image taken in a room at Sotheby’s. Works by Minimalism and Conceptual Art icons Donald Judd, Frank Stella, and Sol LeWitt are featured in the photograph, which has been stretched to fill the entire length of the 25 x 75 foot billboard.

Ed Ruscha, Honey, I Twisted Through More Damn Traffic Today
Through May 2015
West 22nd Street

Ed Ruscha has created large-scale mural on the High Line that “reads like a speech bubble emanating directly from the streets of New York,” as described by curator Cecilia Alemani. This work is also the Pop Art pioneer’s first public commission in New York City.

Peter Fischli and David Weiss, The Way Things Go
Through October 29, beginning at 7:00 PM each evening
14th Street Passage

This mesmerizing video installation has been so popular that we’ve extended its run through October 29. Fischli and Weiss’s half-hour piece is screened on a loop every evening from 7:00 PM until the High Line closes, giving you ample opportunity to experience and re-experience its offbeat charms.

Various Artists, Archeo
Through March 2015
Various locations on the High Line

From Josh Kline’s cheeky “smoothies” to Marianne Vitale’s dramatic railroad junctions, this group exhibition explores themes of technology and obsolescence through many different angles.

For information on all of our fall programs, see the events calendar.

Opening Week activities were generously sponsored by
CSX Transportation. The Macy’s 34th Street Shuttle provided free bus service along 34th Street – between the High Line at the Rail Yards and Macy’s Herald Square – on the weekends of September 20 to 21 and 27 to 28.
