¡ARRIBA!: Latin Dance Party

Wednesday, August 1, 2018
6 – 9pm
Location
On the High Line at 16th St.

Feel the rhythm of some of New York City’s hottest Latin bands! On summer evenings the High Line transforms into an open-air dance floor. DJ Rimarkable kicks off each night followed by live performances from local salsa legends. Grab your friends and get ready to dance!

A virtual United Nations of women, the members of Cocomama hail from five countries on four continents. Playing their own kind of World Latin music, powerfully virtuosic yet elegantly musical.

Join us at 6 PM for music by DJ Rimarkable, or come early for a drink at Terroir and a killer sunset view!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Cocomama’s origins date back to 2005 when an all-female salsa band was requested to play a fundraiser at the Copacabana for then New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The success of this chance performance led to other engagements and from these early gigs, Cocomama was born. For several years, the group was primarily a Latin dance band recording their first EP with renowned producer Ricky Gonzalez which featured hard-hitting, original Latin dance music. Over time, however, the sheer diversity of the band members’ backgrounds and talents could not be ignored. Today, the group’s sound is a more inclusive blending of musical styles and influences from around the globe. Enchanting audiences with their irresistible groove at New York City’s most popular jazz and Latin clubs including Studio 54, the Iridium, Joe’s Pub, Club Bonafide, Fat Cat and Subrosa, Cocomama has also performed at the United Nations, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York City Marathon, the Cape May Jazz Festival, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the Spoleto Music Festival and the Michigan Womyn’s Festival.

DJ Rimarkable is a renaissance woman. A crowd-reading master and rocker of international dance floors for nearly two decades, has allowed her to share the bill with a host of superstars from George Clinton to Madonna to wowing notable colleagues and crowds on Boiler Room. Her unique sound becomes ceremony, with a witches’ brew of House and Techno, in a Soul, Funk, and Disco cauldron, built on the fire behind her Detroit and Chicago upbringing. Rimarkable is the creator and instructor of The Alchemy of DJing Learning Workshops, which present internationally. Her lectures on DJ culture and music have been presented at several festivals, classrooms, including the Queens Museum of Art. Rimarkable is the curator & resident DJ for the international nightlife event, Everybody Random. She resides in Brooklyn, where she owns and operates her creative production company, Rimarkable Things.
