¡Arriba! Latin Dance Party with Avenida B

Thursday, August 8, 2019
6 – 9pm
Location
NEW LOCATION: On the High Line at the Spur at 30th Street and 10th Avenue
Due to the rainy forecast for August 7, ¡Arriba! will now take place on Thursday, August 8 from 6-9pm. If you previously RSVPed via Eventbrite for August 7, your name will be on the list on August 8.

With its roots in the Lower East Side of New York City, Avenida B graces us with the old school sound and timeless swing of the kind of salsa that truly makes you want to get up and dance. They may be new, but this classic salsa dura band is committed to reviving the sounds you grew up on. Join us at 6pm for a DJ set by Bembona, a drink at Hearth’s pop-up bar, and a killer sunset view!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

AVENIDA B
Avenida B’s bandleader David Frankel was born and raised in Alphabet City in Lower Manhattan, a neighborhood rich in the traditions and cultures that helped to create the Latin American sounds of the 1950s through the 1980s and beyond. Inspired by his late father, Latin pianist Daniel “El Mago Del Organo,” Frankel founded Avenida B in 2011 recreate, and to create, live Salsa dura for the dance community. The band’s mission is to reconnect salsa dancers, musicians and DJs in a meaningful way, and to inspire the perpetuity and evolution of Salsa dura and its singular energy and swing.

BEMBONA
Bembona is a Puerto Rican-Panamanian DJ, multi-platform artist, and activist, born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Her work represents and pushes forward the Afro-Diasporadical movement—Latinx/Indigenous/Caribbean/African—with the purpose of empowering and connecting communities of color, across generations, social movements, and beyond.

She’s toured in Colombia, spun at the Afro-Latino Festival, opened for Bomba Estéreo in New York, produced mixtapes for the legendary salsa label Fania Records, and represents one-third of Loca Vibes Radio, a two-hour independent guerrilla radio show aired through Radio Free Brooklyn.
