Hear the story behind New York City’s park in the sky on a special winter walking tour! Join us for a free 45-minute long tour led by our High Line Docents, knowledgeable volunteer guides who offer you an insider’s perspective on the park’s history, design, and landscape.
Free public tours take place Saturdays at 12pm, between November and April, and meet up on the park at the Gansevoort Street entrance. In addition, we’re offering a 75-minute tour on the following Wednesday mornings at 10am: November 24, December 1, December 8, and December 15.
For tours between May and October, see our seasonal tour page.
No more than twenty people will be permitted on the tour, there are no reservations, and spots are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tours are subject to cancellation due to weather. Check @highlinenyc on Twitter for updates prior to arriving at the park.
Frequently Asked Questions
When are free tours available?
Free public tours are available year-round. These tours are first come, first served. No reservations are available.
From May 1 – October 31, we offer 75-minute tours of the park, three times a week: Tuesday evenings and Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
From November 1 – April 30, we offer 45-minute winter tours of the park on Saturdays. These tours explore the southern portion of the park from Gansevoort Street to 23rd Street.
Can I reserve a spot in one of the public tours?
No. All public tours of the park are first come, first served. We recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour for the best chance of gaining a spot. Look for the Information cart at the top of the Gansevoort Street stairs at Washington Street to register.
I’m planning to attend the public tour, but I’m bringing a big group. Should I notify someone?
Yes. We would love to accommodate everyone, but all High Line tours are limited to 20 people and are offered first come, first served. Depending on the number of other guests who show up on a given day, we may not be able to accommodate your entire group.
Advanced notice of groups of at least 15 people will allow us to determine whether we need to look for additional docents. Please email email@example.com as far in advance as possible to let us know your group’s size and the date you plan to attend.
If you would like to guarantee that your group will be able to participate in a tour, please schedule a private tour of the High Line for your group.
How do I schedule a private tour of the High Line?
Private tours of the park are available with at least two weeks’ advance notice. They are available year-round during daylight hours. The rate is determined by the size of your group. All tour revenue directly supports park maintenance and operations. To learn more, visit our Private Tours page.
Major support for High Line Programs is provided by The Brown Foundation, Inc. of Houston. High Line Tours and accessibility are supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Council, under the leadership of Speaker Corey Johnson.
