Make It Wild!

Saturday, September 24, 2016
10am – 2pm
Location
14th Street Passage, on the High Line at West 14th Street

Enjoy a whole day of family fun on the High Line! Get your hands dirty in our mobile garden, create a large-scale art installation with an artist, hear stories from everyone’s favorite librarian, design custom-made structures with the Children’s Workyard Kit, and watch an outrageous variety show with the performers of
Whoop Dee Doo! Each month features a different theme for the Make It! series.

In September, our last program will go out with a bang and get wild! Explore the wild side of the High Line, from its earliest self-seeded plants to the animals that call it home. The program will have a special focus on the park’s Chelsea Grasslands in honor of Friends of the High Line’s September-long celebration.

Schedule of events:
10:00 – 11:00 AM: Storytime with Librarian Amalia Butler especially for ages 0-5 years old
This storytime features tales and songs about animals. Followed by time to draw and play with bubbles.

  • Mobile Garden: Join in a sensory exploration of the Chelsea Grasslands. Examine wheat grass and plant samples up close.
  • Art Project: Wild Mask Making! Using wild and colorful everyday materials – from shower curtains and rain ponchos to sipping straws and stirring sticks – create your own wild animal masks to take home, install on the wall, or wear for the wild-themed variety show.
  • Children’s Workyard Kit: Our mobile crate of building materials is inspired by the park’s industrial history and aesthetic character. The Workyard Kit is designed to help kids chart their own course of play on the High Line. Stop by to use custom-designed wood planks, wheels, roles, gears, and pulleys to create your own construction. Ages 4+
