OUT OF LINE: Open Encounter by Brendan Fernandes

Thursday, August 16, 2018
8 – 9:30pm
On the High Line at 14th St.

Ballet and modern dance clash in this performance that brings Fernandes’ signature dance based practice of using movement as a metaphor for social change to the High Line. Dueling dancers will expose hierarchies in dance, power, bodies and culture with their distinct forms of movement.

Now in its third year, Out of Line presents a new set of arresting, intriguing, and playful performances by some of New York City’s most exciting contemporary artists.

We encourage all persons with disabilities to attend. To request additional information regarding accessibility or accommodations at a program, please contact or 646.774.2482. Program venues are accessible via wheelchair accessibility points, and ASL interpretation can be arranged two weeks in advance.

Brendan Fernandes is a Canadian artist of Kenyan and Indian descent. His artistic practice involves questioning authenticity and articulating issues that surround and debate a cultural and political agenda, through dance and movement. Fernandes was a recipient of a Robert Rauschenberg Residency and Fellowship in 2014, and has exhibited widely domestically and abroad. Upcoming solo projects include the DePaul University Art Museum (Fall 2018).

High Line Programs are supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Council, under the leadership of Speaker Corey Johnson.
