Stand Up Stand Down: An Evening of Stand Up Comedy by Artists

Monday, September 18, 2017
7 – 8pm
Location
On the High Line at 30th St. and 10th Ave.

Stand Up Stand Down is an evening of stand-up comedy by artists hosted by Amy Khoshbin. Stand Up Stand Down uses the form of stand-up comedy to provide space for artists to make social and institutional critiques. Artists have long used humor as a link to the human condition, allowing for connection and catharsis—which we all desperately need these days. Or at least I do. I’m Amy Khoshbin, the host of the evening. Hi. Come to the show and let’s all get to know each other. We’re trying to turn institutions inside out, so here I am addressing you on the High Line website like this is my email inbox. Comedy in an arts institution? Yes. Art in a comedy club? Sure, but not on Sept 18. Come laugh. With and at us. Either way you’re laughing, and that’s better than a panic attack.

Featuring Morgan Bassichis, Lorelei Ramirez, Melissa Brown, Seung-Min Lee, Jacques Louis Vidal, and Zuriel Waters.

The evening will be hosted in a site-specific installation titled La Deliciosa Show, conceived by the artist Radamés “Juni” Figueroa as part of the High Line’s open-air group exhibition, Mutations, which looks at how boundaries between the natural world and culture are defined, crossed, and obliterated. You can learn more about the exhibition at art.thehighline.org.
