The Moon, the Earth and Us: Presented by Oliver Jeffers Studio, in partnership with the High Line

Thursday, January 24 – Thursday, February 14
Location
On the High Line between 15th and 16th Streets

Have you ever wondered what astronauts can see from space?

Artist and children’s book author Oliver Jeffers’ installation The Moon, the Earth and Us is inspired by the Earthrise photo—the first photo of our planet in its entirety—taken 50 years ago during the Apollo 8 mission on December 24, 1968. When looking at the Earth from a great distance, the astronauts noticed that the man-made borders that separate and divide us disappeared, creating a single, interconnected planet. They called this phenomenon “the Overview Effect.”

Presented in partnership with the High Line, The Moon, the Earth and Us explores the Earth’s relationship with its moon in order to better understand ourselves in relation to one another.
